"brodylevenA few weeks ago, I parted ways with my main partner brand, Salomon, after just four years together. This isn't easy, the same way severing a tie with any job is tough. Financially, emotionally, professionally, I've taken it really hard. Let's just say I didn't see it coming. This company is internationally recognized, innovative, reputable, am I doing it all wrong? Am I not even supposed to be posting this?
Adventure is my full-time job, but hiking with skis on my feet doesn't make money fall from the sky. Instead, I've created a career from scratch, a job where a job didn't already exist. I work hard to not only stay fit, but to create value for brands with which I partner, and we rely on one another. The difference is, without them, my entire life changes and this lifestyle is unsustainable; without me, they're still just big corporations selling goods. So maybe we don't rely on one another.
The intricacies of how I make a living aren't important here. I'm a professional athlete and I work with influential brands as a marketing asset. But who do I work with now? My brand is so distinct: human-powered adventure, year-round, in mountain ranges around the world. I speak about the environment, our shared public lands, and the future of our world. That probably scares some companies away. Maybe they see it as controversial, or political, or maybe I'm simply not good enough at skiing, running, nor climbing. Or maybe, like some, they just don't like me. As a person.
This bike trip wasn't planned, but the idea came to me quickly. I didn't relate it to this career shift at the time, but in hindsight, maybe that was precisely the catalyst. Miles and hours and days passed without seeing or speaking with another person. Introspection. A friend died while I was out on the gravel roads, alone. Grief. A strange 30th birthday gift to myself.
Maybe these places are where I go to escape the rest of them. Not necessarily this road, nor state, not even necessarily on a bike. But the outdoors allow me to leave the "other" life and regardless of how much I do it, the escapism is always stronger than anticipated. And almost without exception, it's for the better.
Also fast.

It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
Also mal besser den starken Kerl abgeben.
So, its over for now? Hope you enjoyed the ride as long as you had it :-))

No hard feelings necessary. That grizzled old French guide certainly doesn’t have any—he’s planning to have a coffee, pull his one-piece out of his ass crack and get on with his day, preferably shredding the gnar with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth and hair in the wind, and then make out with a Russian princess later on. C’est la vie.

"Maybe this is weird. Or inappropriate or unprofessional or wrong or is going to ruin my career or life or who knows. But now that I have juuuust an opening or two for what you may call "sponsors" (skis, boots, bindings, outerwear, footwear, goggles and sunglasses, running gear, helmets, apparel, base layers, luggage, socks, packs, shall I continue?), I won't pretend to have all the connections or know exactly what to do. So my question is, which brands do you see me working with, and why?
It blew my mind a few days ago, after what I wrote here, to read your comments, messages, texts, and emails. They were 100% positive. Introductions to team managers, letters of recommendation, pats on the back. Thanks, iFriends. The overwhelmingly common sentiment was that this unexpected career change should lead to stronger, better, healthier partnerships with socially- and environmentally-aware companies which share my penchant for exploration and light and fast human-powered mountain pursuits.
How's THIS for a weird crowd-sourced job hunt?
What is this, some sort of LinkedIn?"
if it's something we can share, we can steal it.
