7.5 meters of snow since January 1
Here is the overnight accumulation for this month according to the Hakkoda Ropeway:
1/1 70cm. 1/2 0cm. 1/3 10cm. 1/4 0cm. 1/5 10cm. 1/6 40cm. 1/7 60cm. 1/8 30cm. 1/9 30cm. 1/10 50cm. 1/11 (Big Tuesday!) 70cm. 1/12 40cm. 1/13 50cm. 1/14 50cm. 1/1550cm. 1/16 25cm. 1/17 15cm. 1/18 70cm. 1/19 20cm. and today 1/21 another 50cm. and still snowing with snow in the forecast everyday for the next week!

Absolute most perfect day at Hakkoda! The snow was deep but not too much to bog us down, the first steep drop (see pic) and 3 km run out to the Motoyu was spectacular. The afternoon run down the Doozo route was fresh, untouched, deep tracks for 2 kilometers. We saw no one and I mean absolutely no one but us on both tours! POWDER heaven!

do i see a monoskier? that'd be cool. (in a longboard-day-cool way ;) )

snowboarders with poles on the other hand... maybe you do need terrain :p

No, just me on my Burton Triumph 169. Most snowboarders at Hakkoda use poles 24/7, they come in VERY handy!
